Sea Sun and Sand Shakers

A friend of mine is going on a fun, sea and beach filled vacation. She deserves it so much, So I wanted to have a little fun with her girls and make some fun shakers. I just painted the background on some and filled with lots of goodies on the inside.

The Sand Dollar Shaker, I simply blending some paint to get the background. I would say this was the most complete one to put together. They are a number of intricate parts and layers. I topped all the shakers with some crackle paint to help get the effects of the wear and tear of the sun, sea and sand.

The Shell Shaker was the same, painting and layers adding fine details with the crackle.

The Island Shaker I decided to paint a quick sunset in the background. Adding a little bit of sunshine and then painting the palm and sand on the top layer of the shaker. I actually was going to put palm shakers in the globe but glued it all together and looked down and there were the palms. 🙁 next time.

The Flip Flops Shaker was fun, probably my favourite one of the bunch. After painting all of the bits to all the shakers, I gathered a variety of glitter, metal embellishments and crystals.

I hope you enjoy and I know my friend will have a blast with her girls soaking up the sun and relaxing away from the chaotic world we call life.

Thank you for stopping, be creative!!!

Altered Tea Pot Mixed Media with Creative Embellishments

Welcome back to another alter item post here. I have so many small altered items on my list to make, its just a matter of time to sit down and just get to it. Hopefully with the cooling weather and soon snow will be flying I will be able to split my time between the slopes, work and my “office”.

I picked up this tea pot at an old thrift store, it was missing the inside “guts” and was pretty much non functional. So why not make some art out of it.

I added rice paper to the handle of the tea pot. Using a matte varnish to adhere it down and eventually I will mix the paint to match the handle at the end.

I started with adding some Cracked Brick Stencil and thick black paste to the background. Randomly placing patches on the base of the tea pot. Once dry, ok to be honest, I am very inpatient when it comes to drying things. I either get distracted with something else like, dishes or laundry that I just work right through being carful not to smudge or ruin the paste. But again its mixed media so flaws add to the project.

Here’s a short video of the project.

I then glue down the Brick pieces to both the front and the back of the tea pot, I will have a bigger focal point on the front and smaller on the back. I then add to the blank areas with some crackle paint to add more texture to the background.

I assemble the focal pieces with various metal elements, resins and smaller pearls and bits. Working from bigger in the centre to smaller on the outside and then the fillers.

Through various layers of paint, I blend and match the rice paper I used on the handle of the tea pot. Topping off the final piece with a bit of wax to highlight just a bit more.

Amber Moon Wedding Tags with Creative Embellishments

Welcome back to another post here. I recently had a wedding and needed a card or tag to go with the gift. I love making tags and shabby chic ones at that.  I made a very elegant set Wedding tags made for Creative Embellishments and the Amber Moon Paper collection.

Here is a short video of the creative process.

Is started with a set of base tags and die cut the top layer of each tag. Both for the front and the back. I did a little ink distressing on the edges and used score tape to adhere the layers together.

Once I got the base done, I added a flourish stencil with some 3-D Matte Gel, which will dry clear. Once dry I add a bit of spray over the top to highlight the gel and flourish design.

I love layers the more the layers the better, I grabbed the flourish set 3 along with the Title works Beautiful Day and The Best Things in Life. Using Baked Textured Embossing Powder to match the over look, I added some Sand texture to the flourish’s and a bolder Rocky Road to the Titles.

Once all the embossing is done, I grab the matching flower, die cut elements, stickers and gems. Let the layering commence.

I fill in the smaller spaces with smaller flowers and add a bit of lift with cardboard on the base to have more dimension.

I finish off the tags with a little bit of bling and some dyed seam binding to match the tag and spray I used earlier. Just a beautiful set of wedding tags. Perfect for the fall wedding here in the midwest.

Thank you for stopping by today and I hope your inspired! Happy Crafting.

Mixed Media Shaker Tag

Welcome back to another one of my steampunk projects. Today I decided to make a steampunk shaker tag. something I’ve been thinking about for a bit once I saw the new large shaker tags in the store. I always have gears laying around my table, so I decided to try and use some of them up.

There is a lot of background painting to this project, I love painting it’s rather relaxing for me. I use my go to colours to get the rust effect of things. Quinn Gold, Burnt Umber and Transparent Yellow Oxide. I always top things off with a  bit of Cobalt Blue.  I use lots of water to dilute and blend.

Here is a short video of the creative process.

Once I covered the background of the Large Shaker tag with anti paper from November of 1873. I add a thick layer of crackle glaze. Once the first coat was dry I added a second layer to it.

Now is when the painting begins, I had part of the Steampunk Clock Corner and the Steampunk Corner Frame, Gears 1 1/2 and Gears Set 4 all collected. I start with  blending the Quinn and Burnt Umber on each of the pieces. I then add the a little Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide, Once I get what I like, I top it off with a little splashes of Titan Buff. I add some shading and detail to the background of the tag as well.

Once everything is painted, I adhere the first two layers of the tag frame and then  I layer of the gears, frame and Corners. Once I get the background I like, I add all the fun stuff, microbeads, glad Glitter and Desert Sky Shimmerz from Buttons Galore and More.

Once I get the filling of the shaker tag done, I glue on the acetate frame and last tag boarder. Then its to use up the rest of the gears I painted. Adding them right to the top of the tag.

I hope you enjoy this project and try one of your own. they are very fun to make. Thank you for stopping by today.

Hoco 22 Hollywood Homecoming Mixed Media Layout

Welcome back to another post here. Lots happening around the house and the fall is always busy with orchards, halloween, football games and of course Homecoming. So after a much exciting football game. Olivia got to go to her first Homecoming. And of course she had to get a photo with her Goat Enso.

I started with some base paper and prepped it with clear gesso knowing I was going to use a bunch of mediums on this page. I started with a few stamps and various colours, I started with the distress grid on the background. Then I added background with the Film Strip.

Using see Textured Paste and the Tiles Stencil I add background onto the page. After some heat setting I add a little more colour to the background with spray.

I wanted to keep with the Hollywood Theme and pulled out the Film Set and Film Strip Picture Frames. I dig out some Embossing enamel and applied to both the Film Set and the Film strip Picture Frames.

After I heat set the film chipboard, I just start to layer up the page. Using a variety of leftover scrapes. I hate to throw anything away, die-cuts and stickers from the paper pack. with lots of layers I start with bigger layers on the bottom and work to the smaller elements, adding flowers and the chipboard into the papers. Finishing off with a few micro beads and splashes of paint.

Such great memories for Olivia and her first homecoming Hollywood theme.

Happy Birthday Shaker Cards

Hello all, I would love to share a fun set of cards I made for an upcoming boy birthday. I picked out an old paper pack that had a number of matching die-cuts along with some embellishments. I cut the cards to a size that I can make a matching envelope for.

Once cut to size, I took the cake shaker 2 and cake shaker 3 and painted them white. keeping in mind how they are going to stack up through the layers. Once I got all the base painting done, I needed to add some frosting. I pick a deep blue paint to match the paper.

I wanted to add a little more detail on the frosting portion on the cake so I added some glitter with the Dots Stencil and glitter paste.

Once everything was dry, I glue each layer together until it is time to do the filling. I gather a variety of filling to each of the cakes and seal with the acrylic layer, and then top it off with the last layer.

Once they were dry, I layered up the shakers and the die-cuts. I then painted the balloons to match and layered them on the inside of the card. I add some layering on each of the cards and stamp the sentiment.

I hope you enjoy the cards today and be creative, Thank you for stopping by today!

Grungy Tag

Here is another quick tag made grunge style. I love just throwing paints and mediums in a project. Mixing and matching to see what the layers will do.

Using the large tag I painted the edges to get a finished look to the tag. I then cut the paper slightly smaller than the tag itself and distressed the edges.

The background colours were fairly bold and bright. I started with just a quick layer of clear gesso

I started on the background with the typewriter stencil and some crackle paint. I covered most of the background with it. Once dry I stamped right over the texture with the Distress Grid Stamp. A little spray to lighten the boldness of the paper and two grunge it up.

I then pulled out the distress grid chipboard and the washi tape and added the past and spray to each of them. I set them aside to dry while I dug out some flowers, ribbon and metal pieces.

I layered a few of the items, added some more crackle paint direct on the flowers and pulled out some waxes to highlight the ribbon and edges of the tag. I hope you enjoy the tag. A little antique paper on the back of the tag and some seam binding and we are done.

Thank you for stopping, enjoy this quick and easy tag! Happy Crafting

Gears Wall Hanging

Welcome back to another blog post with a fun gear filled wall hanging. If you can imagine what is on my desk you will know I always have a variety of gears just laying about. I either left a project in a hurry or threw away the packaging. So with this project I figured I would pull a Yasmin and create with what’s around me. The only thing I pulled out was the large 12″ gear 2.

Here is a short video of the creative process, its essential building up the gears and then layers of paint to get the desired effect of rust and patina.

After fulling the Large 12″ Gear out I used the Large Gear Frames as the next layer building from bigger to smaller.

I have a variety of gears anywhere from Gears Set 5  2″ down to gears 1 on my desk. Along with some other bits and bobs. So I just started to layer those along g with digging some chain out of my stash to make the wall piece look like it actually does move the chain.

After I added a few clusters of the gears and chain, I picked my favourite paint combo of Quinnacridone Gold, Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide and Burnt Umber. Add a squirt of water here and there and its the perfect blending combo to get that rusty industrial feel to a project.

I hope you enjoy the project today. Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy the craftiness.

Altered Telephone

Hello all, I have another fun project to share today, I have had this telephone for some time. Just waiting to be put to good use. Today I decided to alter it a bit. And sometimes, it is true, when less is more. Now I think I am done for now with this project but sometimes the longer I look at something the more I think I may need to add something to it. We will see how that goes once it is up on my self for a bit.

I started out with some decoupaging rice paper on the phone, This was a bit planned. I used Andy’s rice papers and I only had one of each, so I found two that somewhat matched.

Once the rice paper was dry, it was a matter of finding the right ATC coin to fit the theme. I did end up going the the numbers from the steampunk ATC set and the punchinello from the Shapes ATC set.

I cut the ATC’s to size and glued them on to get the fit right on the phone. matching numbers on the receiver and the punchinello on the numbers dial.

Using the Distress Patterns Stencil, I added the small circles on the frame of the telephone and the receiver.

Once everything was dry, I did some light layers of paint and distressing to blend the piece better. I would say a fine addition to my altered art.

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you enjoy the project.

Great Ideas Industrial Tags

Welcome back to another blog post, work has been crazy and we are now getting chickens and goats. The weather has been gorgeous, so I have been trying to get as many chores done as I can. I found a little time one morning to create a set of tags for a coworker transitioning jobs.

This is a set of tags. I chose to use an industreial paper pack and mess around with e some background techniques. Once i adhered the paper to the tag a quick layer of clear gesso. I then started with the distressed checkered stencil and a liberal layer of crackle paint. Once that dried i used the distressed grid stencil and a metallic modelling paste randomly on the background.

Once the pastes were dry, I used Lindy’s spray to blend a and enhance the crackle paste. Using the great ideas light bulbs and paper clip chipboard I gathered a variety of embossing powders.

I embossed the light bulbs and paper clips and gathered other medal embellishments before starting the layering process,.

I cut a few scraps of paper and ink distressed the edges, and start to layer. I add burlap, the chipboard and a wooden ruler to each tag.

Once everything was glued down I dyed seam binding to match the tags. A perfect tag set in the industrial style. I hope you enjoy.
