Amy’s Junk Journal Colorado Creative Embellishments

Welcome back, I would love to share a junk journal I made for my good friend Amy, This is of our trip snowboarding out to Colorado. I saved a number of receipts, airplane tickets and maps from our trip. This is a photo heavy post, Lots of pages in this junk journal.

Here is the creative video of most of the pages.

I was very excited to make this for Amy, we had a blast of a time, made lots of memories laugh a ton! I started with making the junk journal itself. Then I prepped each of the papers, with gesso and stamping. I started with the Grid, Brick and Ledger Stencil and a thick crackle paste.

Here is a video walk through of the project:

Page by Page:

I have a ton of journal embellishments but never think to mix and match collections and companies. This project I just went for it. I added a number of personal information like out flight number and where we stayed. My room was a huge mess after this project.

This journal book has a set of 3 inserts with 2 full pages per grouping. On this particular page, I wanted to make the goggles from the Winter Sports Collection to actually look like our goggles we wore. I used some acetate to make the lenses and then added some alcohol ink to add the colour.

Using the Blue Stars collection, I cut lots of small paper embellishments to help fill in spots here and there through out the project. I have a goal of trying to use other small embellishments to add to project like brads and twine.

I grabbed a few extra maps from the hill to cut out elements. Our first mountain we boarded was Keystone. So the first insert is about our first portion of our adventure.

I added the Travel Words Set 1 to various pages in the project. Using a the same matching embossing enamel on all of them.

I used elements of the paper collection and added more background with the Snowflake Stamp and matching inks.

Using the Scandinavian Mountains, I added a few thick layers of alcohol ink and left the base of the mountain in the natural look of things.

I love panorama photos, I laminated a few of these and put in the book to have a beautiful shot of the scenery.

Our next snowboarding adventure was A-Basin. Which I think I liked better, its a harder mountain and it felt less busy than Keystone. The next set of inserts primary are tid-bits about A-Basin.

I added an extra flap in this section and put in tags with a fun lot of info and cut-outs on both sides of the tags.

Here’s one side of the tags.

On the next page here is the other goggles with the white out lens. Opposite is a waterfall with a number of photos on top of the mountain.

I filled in spaces with the white acrylic snowflakes and the

The nice thing about waterfalls, you can add so much stuff. I brought my good camera with me up on the mountain and it was nice to be able to get some really good photos.

I will confess, we did not go on the Gulllies. I don’t think I could have walked that far with the elevation. lol We were getting razed at work about the “old ladies” going out west  boarding.

I love this next page, I had so much fun making matching snowboards from the winder kit. I added some embossing enamel and while its hot and melting I take the blunt end of a brush and swirl around the enamel to mix up the colours. I just love the effect it gives.

We aways had to stop and take a break and who doesn’t love a good bloody mary in the morning.

The last insert was a few strangling photos and our nice little afternoon snack at the winery. Again some cut outs from the paper collection and a pop of melting snowflakes flare in the cluster.

Another great photo over looking the vast valley below.

Stunning moments we created,
I learned a few things from this trip. One I need to get on a exercise regimen to keep up with Amy. That girl can go. Two I need a new board, My board took a beating and I deserve to treat myself to one. Life is too short an enjoy all that is around you!

We had so much fun, and Amy is like me, laid back, easy going and willing to just go with the flow, try pretty much anything and not picky about food. This page I made a flap to add a few more photos of out afternoon out to the project.

We finished off the trip by visiting my scrappy friend Billie for lunch before catching our flight back to the midwest. Great food, Great Friends and Great Memories!

Well I hope you enjoyed our creative weekend away on this Junk Journal. I think I will be making some more of these. So fun, lots of time that went in, and lots of reminiscing about the good times. Thank you for stopping by, until next time.

A New Year, A New Day Mixed Media Tag

Happy Happy New Year to you all! Another year, and a new day.

I had just gotten some new paper from over seas. Just what I need is more paper, but a girl needs some new goods from time to time. So gorgeous and elegant, I had some tags I needed to make for a few fellow staff members that have chosen a new path for this upcoming new year.

I made a short little video of the creative process.

I started layering the paper on the large Tags from the store, so fun and big, a prefect canvas to make pretty much anything. I picked out three different pastes that match the paper. I layered and mixed the pastes through the Small Circle Stencil and set aside to dry.

I cut some of the elements from the paper to add to the details of the tag.

I began with the Berry Sprigs and started with some lindy’s spray Autumn Crimson Red and before that was dry, I added Burnt Orange and sprayed it with some water to get the water colour effect.

I did the same effect on the Fancy Floral Filigree 2 and Simple Flourish 2 with a soem black and green spray.

I didn’t add too much to the card, the paper collection came with paper die cuts (I hate fussy cutting 😉 ) A simple flower cluster and resin embellishment along with some die cut elements.

I wanted to leave a spot to write a little inspirational note on the back, and well wishes for a Happy New Year.

I wanted to soften the look of the card and pull the silvers and golds out of the paper. I tried some Gilding gold and silver, yep that didn’t work. I tried some paint (My New Years goal is to use older product up) I grabbed some paint that was pretty thick, it didn’t layer how I wanted it to, yep starting to cover that up. So my splatters got a little heavy in a few spots.

Thank you all for stopping by, I want to wish you all a happy happy New Year and a creative one!

Holiday Shaker Tags with Creative Embellishments

Where has the year gone? And what a year it has been. I have worked un unbelievable amount of hours and to be honest not even sure where I found the time to really create. But it does relax me and I truly enjoy all the fun projects.

I wanted to make some shakers from the store this holiday season. I originally started out with just the shakers. And then I got the brilliant idea to add them to a tag, but make them removable and add a ribbon so they can be hung from the tree as an ornament. This project snowballed so to speak.

I did make a video of the creative process, enjoy!

Both the fronts and the back of the tags are pretty to look at. I made the shakers and adhered then to the tags with some Velcro.

I started these tags with the Tags from the store, I used my adhesive machine and got a even layer of adhesive and added the paper and trimmed up all the edges. After a quick layer of clear gesso. I crackled the background, setting it aside to dry naturally.

I try and incorporate elements from the paper collection into the project. I found some flatback pearls to add to the tags and the flower clusters.

Using the circle lattice stencil, I added some glass glitter, not getting the effect I was looking for. I liked how it came out, just not how I anticipated the paste drying.

I added the mini ornate pieces to each of the flower clusters on the front of the tags. Finishing each cluster with some Norwegian pinecones and some dried seeds.

Here are a few close-ups of the shaker ornaments and the tags.

I coloured each of the shakers with a variety of PITT pens, Gelatos and waxes.

I topped off each of the clusters with some snowflake paste to add to that wintery feel.

I used a variety of glitter, shaker elements, candy canes and snowflakes in each of the shakers.

Happy Holiday Mixed Media Layout with Creative Embellishments

I work with this amazing RN Kelsey,  just recently married. She recently had her holiday photos done and I just had to nip some of those photos. There are so cute and festive and the truck was just prefect to put together with the Classic Pick-up Truck from the store. One of the funner layouts I have done lately.

Here is a short creative video of the process.

This was a fun layout to make. I wanted to incorporate the Classic Pick Up Truck in to the page. It pulls out the theme and feel from the photos. I usually start out with some stamping of various colours. I started with the Distress Script Stamp and then went over that with the Distress Snowflake Stamp.

I don’t ever think to use the micro-bead paste on the background and let alone with a stencil. But this page I added a thick layer carefully through the Snowflake Stencil. I love the effect it gave.

Using the snowflake frame and some white ink I simply dabbed the ink right on the frame, not completely covering it but making look more rustic.

I painted the tree and added some plain inked snowflakes to each of the clusters. Finishing each flower cluster off with some dabbles, lace and metal embellishments.

I love how the Happy Hollidays turned out, pulling the green from the background of the photos, I added some some tips of white on all of the peaks to get that covered in snow effect.

I finished it off with some splashes to add to the winter fresh feeling.

This page came together so easy with such an easy photo to incorporate into the page. Great inspiration both in photo and in real life!

I want to thank you all for stopping by today and Wish you all a happy and safe holiday season.

December Challenge Holiday ATC Bulbs with Creative Embellishments

Welcome back to another monthly challenge. This month it is all about glitter. I have had this idea in my head about this project for a while, I had gotten these clear bulbs a few years ago and finally sat down and just made them. The trick was to get the Winter ATC to fit in the centre. I brought some clear acetate with me down to Maggi’s and decided to paint each of the ATC’s. Once painted I cut the acetate to sandwich the ATC within each of the bulbs. Seeing the twist was Glitter this month, I added the Blue Frosted Acrylic Snowflakes and the Small Silver Glitter Acrylic Stars and lots of other glitter and gems. I then sealed each side of the bulb and covered it with a festive winter ribbon.

Here is a short video I took While at Maggi’s.

Here is the inspirational photo and the twist this month is to add glitter.

Here are a few more close ups.

Thank You For stopping by today and I hope to see the wonderful entries in the challenge.

Holiday Clear ATC’s

Welcome back to another day on the blog. Today I am sharing a set of Clear ATC Holiday Tags made with the Newer Clear Acetate ATC’s. The acetate is unique to work with, so I have been having fun just playing figuring out what works and what doesn’t work. What pastes will stick to the smooth surface and which ones to avoid.

Here is a short video of the creative process.

I started with a thick grit paste on the base of the ATC’s using the snowflake stencil. Again with any of the acetate products, caution is to be used when using the heat gun, it will melt the ATC’s. It is possible but to hold it a far distance away from the ATC.

Once the ATC’s had a good chance to dry, I added a little alcohol ink and water to add some colour to the back ground. Again, setting it to the side to dry.

I actually took regular old wrapping paper and covered the base of the gifts with it. Wrapping it up just like a normal gift. I used my Xyron Adhesive machine and added adhesive to the top portion of the gift. Using a bone folder I place a decorative foil on the adhesive and rub the foil until it transfers onto the chipboard. Once I transfer all the foil, I glue the two chipboards together.

On the back of the ATC. I started with some Dresden trim to outline the card. Using the Yuletide word stickers and paper die-cuts, I layered a small holiday sentiment to finish them off. Thinking that these would be great for some holiday gift bags, I punched a hole in the corner and added some seam binding to be able to attach them to a gift.

What a fun and easy little holiday tag using the clear acetate ATC’s. I hope this inspires some crafty creations with the clear products from the store. Happy Holidays to you all during this festive time. Thank you for stopping!

Design team portfolio

Welcome back. I have such a fun project to share today. I cant take credit for it, other than its my take on the project. When I was over to Maggi’s in June she has this beautiful DT portfolio she keeps everything in from ideas to deadlines to even products she might need or want, ok or enable others to get. 😉 But of course hers is made from G45 no less. I wanted to do one with my own twist and style. So a little steampunk and grunge and this girl is happy.

This Post is going to be photo heavy. It has two covers and then 4 double sided inserts. Because I needed to make if functional and i need to take it back and forth to work with me, I needed to keep it pretty flat, I have a tendency to really go big at times.

Here is the video:

The folder has two inside pockets and I cut the dividers myself with some heavy cardstock and a punch for the tabs. Using the Mechanical Fantasy Collection from Stamperia I picked out the base papers and fussy cut elements out of the rest. I added a very subtle element of paste with the ledger stencil around the focal points on the paper.

I love the background paper and had trouble just deciding whether or not I wanted to cover it up. With the back of this insert I made a simple little pocket and just added a cut out tag.

I added the Steampunk Seahorse from the store right over the paper one on the next insert just enough to add a little dimension.

Another pocket on the back of the insert and one of the newer gear simple gear flourish‘s to a more elegant touch.

Now if  you remember I saw this project in June and when we went back to Maggi’s in September is when I finally got to start it. I had to find the right album/portfolio with the front pockets for the cover. I ended up getting mine on Amazon although Maggi found hers at Walmart in the school supplies. I bought extra replacement paper also.

I ended up borrowing the Steampunk Octopus from Maggi and had to wait until I got home to finish the seahorse and the dragonfly.

I used some more fear flourishes on the 3rd insert and cut out a smaller dear head for the 4th. Just add the lift with some 1″ gears.

The back of the last page is just gear flourish and small gear to highlight the skull from the paper collection.

I added one simple little gear to the back of the book and added paper to the binding to finish off the project.

This project was so fun. I added a monthly calendar from off line to actually have a calendar I can write on for all my DT deadlines. I know I need to add more of me to the project but as I use it, I will figure more of that out.

I hope you enjoy and are inspired. Thank you for stopping by today. Stay crafty!

Mixed Media Layout November Challenge

Welcome back to another month at Creative Embellishments. This month we have another sketch challenge. So my possibilities with sketches which is fun to see all of the different variations that people come up with.  This mixed media layout features photos from out trip to the Keys. This was one of our favourite places to go. Seeing with COVID we were trying to avoid crowds and people, we found a small spot just off the side of the road to picnic, walk the reef and do some snorkeling. We found some amazing creatures including a small octopus.  This little hole in the wall is just outside Bahia Honda State Park.

This is the sketch challenge, I used a variety of elements in my page.

Here is a short video of the creative process.

After prepping the background with gesso to take on pastes and sprays. I take the inspiration from the background on the sketch. I added stamping with the Distress Numbers Stamp along with the Numbers Boarder Stamp. Using the Distress patterns stencil, I add a thick layer of black pastes sporadically over the page.

I used various chipboards. I added colour with Lindy’s spray. I only had a small variety with me at Maggi’s so I made it work with what I had. I highlighted the chipboard with some waxes.  I don’t always cut my photos down to fit the Grunge Frames. I like the different look, it adds an element of uniqueness to the page.

I used various Washi clusters on the page in-between the layers. I actually cut them apart to make them go a little further.

I just love love love layers. I actually brought a number of flowers with me on the trip to Maggi’s. (I actually forgot to pack them until there was a gentle reminder) But some of my layouts just don’t need them.

The twist this month was to add splashes on the page. I used some burnt umber and yellow iron oxide liquid acrylic paints. I diluted it with some water before adding some splashes. I finished the page off with some glass glitter.

Solar Eclipse Altered Tag with Andy Skinner

A few years ago I was lucky enough to hang out with the gang from Ministry of Mixology. And per usual fashion there are always great evening classes. Well my team-mate Monika Maksim had a class which featured these lovely mould. I nipped one (or maybe two) for myself.

Solar Tag andy Skinner 4

Using a tando tag as the base, I found an embossing folder I particularly liked and spritzed a bit a water on the tag  before running it through my Big Shot machine. I was pleased with the outcome of the texture. Solar Tag Andy Skinner 5.jpg

I wanted to focus on the faces and did some simple layering with Andy’s Industrial elements and large gears. I was something a bit different and not so grunge. I blended the background and highlighted the Solar Eclipse to focus more on the focal point of the faces.

Keeping It Reel Double Layout with Creative Embellishments

This is a double layout, I haven’t done one of these in years. I have so many projects and photos I want to showcase that I just don’t have enough time in my world to do it.

While I was at Maggi’s back in June, this is one of the projects I was going to do along with a mini album. Adam and I took the kids on an all day excursion fishing in the vast wide open ocean. We did not catch the a big sword fish but we did bring home a good haul. 25 pounds worth of Mahi Mahi and Tuna. So worth it.

I have a short video of the creative process.

I started with the base paper, Using the Distress Weave stencil and the Circuit Stamp on the background. I had brought limited supplies and used what I had. I used some shimmering paste to mimic waves in the background.

Once I had the background done, I built up the photos and layered various cutouts from the paper collection. I had been sitting on the Keeping it Reel Title and Fishing set for some time. My boy loves to go fishing. This was perfect because he was the Tuna King this day.

I used embossing pastes and powders to each of the chipboard. Even adding string to each of the hooks to add to the feel of being out in the ocean catching the big Mahi Mahi.

Once everything was built up, I actually added some journaling to the page. Something I wish I did more of. I might have to do more of these double pages. It’s one way to scrap more memories and use up some supplies.

I hope you enjoy! Thank you for stopping by.
