Steampunk Man
Lots of pictures today, but I am showcasing my steampunk man. This guy is huge and heavy. I attempted to go victorian steampunk style with this guy.
I will say this. After watching Milagros and Sherry from Relics and Artifacts, I have a new profound appreciation to anyone that can use Apoxie Sculpt and yet do it with limited time, on camera and not swear and want to walk away from the project. Lets just say, there is a huge learning curve with it.
I did make the cloak based “loosely” on these examples. Like I said, if I could have walked away from this project when I was manipulating the clay, I would have. But It was fun, I made it in stages over a couple of days so by the third day, I was feeling more comfortable. (Picture source: Internet Google)
I love the rust effect that Andy Skinner does using the DecoArt Fluid Acrylics and it goes so well with his Industrial Elements from Tando Creative.
I wanted to incorporate CCB “Movember” Challenge, the gears and a wind up crank worked perfect. For clarification: Movember here where I live is where none of the men shave their facial hair the whole month of November, just incase you wanted to know.
I did a substantial number of coats of paint on this project between all of the rust effect and a lot of dirty washes, with one of my favorite combos now of Paynes Grey and Quinacridone Gold.
I made the cane with a couple of strays put together and used more Apoxie Sculpt for the handle. I also used Andy’s Industrial stamp to add texture to the handle.
I hope you enjoy this project! It was very fun even though it started with some frustration. I love the end result. Thank you for stopping.

YES to the learning curve with Apoxy Clay – I definitely am the “swear and walk away” type….lol!
And also a huge YES to your awesome steampunk guy and his fabulous cloak! Well done! And obviously worth all the hard work and trying not to swear and walk away! 😉
LOVE your sophisticated steampunk guy and am so happy that you are sharing him with us at SanDee&amelie’s Steampunk Challenges!

Thank you so much Claudia, I am glad to hear I am not the only one that feels that way sometimes. Thank you for the kind words.
Absolutely love him! You’d never guess, as wonderfully as he turned out, that he gave you moments of frustration. There may be a learning curve to apoxie sculpt – but girl you’ve nailed it!
Don’t all men give us moments of frustration, 🙂 I actually do love him even though I wanted to rip his head off from time to time.
Oh what an amazing steampunk Artwork, made with lot of fantasy, great. I like it much.
Dear greetings

Such an amazing project Heather. Makes me think of some of my favorite steampunk books. (Do you like to read those too ?)
Anyhow the details are amazing and impressive. So ebbing entirely different despite its aged look.

Great job!!!
Thanks for joining us at MMW! 🙂
Thank you 🙂
Absolutely stunning to say the least. This is something that would be found in a museum. I was floored when I first saw it. I use Apoxy clay in all all my assemblage, altered bottle and sculptural projects and times I use both Polyemer and Apoxy clay in the same pieces. I love, yet hate how sticky is, limited time to work, tough to sculpt, but love the end results. I have a theory that three makes the world go around in art fine sandpaper (no matter the project, even on paper), Apoxy clay and gesso.
I love your theory. Perfect! and thank you for your kind words. I am very happy with my man. I so true, Apoxy is a love hate relationship. Thank you again.
