I want to share this  canvas I made for Jenn and Dee Dee’s October Mood Board. I saw the mood board and thought wow, and then to see their examples. Simply inspiring. I can make something work with this.

The moth that is featured is an actual Polyphemus Moth, indigenous to North America. After the moth emerges from the cocoon, it lives on average 10 days, it has no mouth or digestive system.

I started the bottom canvas by adding the burlap, and adding some mica powder to some crackle paste. I also added some sprays and water to add more color to the background.

I used rock candy on the wings, I originally placed them on some wax paper so I could fill in the holes.

I used a spray varnish on the moth itself to stiffen the wings, multiple light layers until I felt it was sturdy. (still very fragile, but better)

After the wings had dried, I brushed some artisan powder on to add some colour variation between the brown and green.

I took different lace ribbons and added more Sprays to alter the colour and adhered with some heavy gel.

This is one moth we found this summer. These are amazing big and such a beautiful sight to see.
