Altered Light Bulb – Steampunked

Hi all, I want to share with you today and altered light bulb creation.  I was at an auction and found these electrical insulators  that are found on the electrical poles. They were such a bargain I bought 9. Various colours and shapes. I decided to altered this one a bit steampunk.

I started with the Celtic Boarder and just went around the insulator. And then I started to build it up with the various sizes of the Gears. Cutting and layering them. I felt the base of the ceramic piece was lacking and why not add some there. too.

Here is some pics of the creative process.

So on to more closeups and creative process.

I Wanted to add something to both sides of the bulbs, so I used the layered wings and added some gears to them to punk them up some. Not too much to take aways from the light bulb itself.

Because the back of the layered wings were flat and its a three dimensional piece I added some hot glue to give them more texture.

After adding various small metal pieces for more details, I layered the whole piece with rust and patina pastes to finish off the industrial steampunk effect.
